Spotlight Players is very excited to announce Open Auditions for our Summer 2023 Musical Production (title to be announced on May 31)! Auditions will be held on:

Sunday, May 21st
1pm-5pm

and

Wednesday, May 24th
7pm-9:30pm

at

First Presbyterian Church
883 Rt 34
Matawan, NJ 07747

We are seeking actors 13 and up. Show dates are August 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. Please note that some roles may be double cast, but all actors are expected to be available for all performances.

Please prepare a 30-60 second cut of a song in the style of contemporary musical theatre. Make sure to come prepared with printed piano sheet music for our accompanist to play along. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to dance. Below is the link to sign up for in person auditions. Walk-ins will be accepted, but those with appointments will be prioritized.

We will try our best to stick to the time slots; however, it is possible you may have to stay longer to ensure a fair audition process for all.

Video auditions will be accepted for those who cannot attend in person. If sending in a video, it must also be accompanied by a resume. If you do not have a resume, please give your name, age and any previous theatre experience you might have. Videos and information should be submitted to [email protected] no later than May 29th at 12 pm. Those who are being considered for a larger role may be asked to come in person, following the video audition.

The title of the musical will be announced on May 31st. Callbacks will also be held on May 31st starting at 7pm.

Character Descriptions*

Character 1: teenager in high school, female, smart with tomboy qualities, reluctant poster child for LGBT youth, mezzo (soprano/alto)

Character 2: teenager in high school, female, cheerleader and top student, faces constant pressure, especially from her overbearing mother, mezzo (soprano/alto)

Character 3: adult male, principal, straight-laced but sympathetic, big fan of Broadway, baritone/bass-baritone

Character 4: adult female, mother and head of PTA, conservative and intimidating, alto

Character 5-8: two male and two female high school students, start out as bullies, but ultimately become accepting

Character 9: adult male, flamboyant Broadway star, politically incorrect, but doesn’t know it, baritone/tenor

Character 10: adult female, Broadway diva, huge ego, self-involved, alto

Character 11: adult male, pretentious Juilliard graduate, non-equity actor, baritone/tenor

Character 12: adult female, jaded Fosse actor/dancer with a heart of gold, alto

Character 13: adult male, charismatic press agent, baritone
Ensemble: party attendees, reporters, high school students, PTA members, etc.
